Police Officer Suffers Injuries in Motorcycle Collision

In Carmel, Indiana, a crash between a motorcycle and a van caused a police officer to suffer injures to his ankle and leg. According to police, the crash occurred shortly after noon on Tuesday, February 21st, in the roundabout of Range Line Road and Carmel Drive.

Investigators revealed that a white 2012 Ford E-350 van driven by Louis J. Guzman, age 32, of Indianapolis, was headed south on Range Line Road in the left lane. Then, he suddenly changed lanes and crashed into a white 2015 Carmel Police Department Harley Davidson Electric Glide motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was Officer Scott Spellman, age 47, of Carmel. He was taken to 86th Street St. Vincent Hospital. Mr. Guzman was arrested for never being licensed, a class C misdemeanor. In addition, he received citations for driving with expired license plates, and changing lanes in an unsafe manner.

Here, the motorcyclist was injured due to the negligence of the other motorist, who acted recklessly when he engaged in a sudden lane change.
