·             If you can’t avoid a pothole, slow down before you hit it. Don’t brake directly over a pothole, which can actually cause more damage.

Be prepared to stop; do not rev the engine of your bike or sound the horn as this is likely to startle the animal and could cause damage to your motorcycle.

Remember your eyes steer the motorcycle and therefore look to where you want to go.

If animals appear suddenly in front of your motorcycle, resist the urge to swerve. It is far better to brake in a straight line (even if there is impact and a motorcycle accident causing injury) than to swerve and potentially leave the road and possibly sustain greater injury from your motorcycle accident by crashing into a guard rail were going down an embankment on your motorcycle. Additionally animal may move to get out of the way and your swerve may cause contact that you’re trying to avoid.

You will definitely come off worse in a motorcycle accident with a large animal.  If encountering a large animal on your motorcycle brake hard. If you encounter a small animal it is better hit the animal than to risk your life.  If a smaller animal like a rabbit or feral cat crosses your path, DO NOT SWERVE, but brake firmly if safe to do so. Such a small animal will do little damage to your motorcycle if you cannot stop in time.
