Off-Duty Texas Officer and his Wife Lose Their Lives in Motorcycle Collision

A motorcycle collision claimed the lives of a Fort Worth police officer and his wife on Friday, March 31st. They were on their way home from a late dinner at 2:17 a.m. when the crash occurred in the 3300 block of Trail Drive close to the Fort Worth Cultural District.

Michael Valdez, age 44, was declared dead at the scene of the accident. His wife, Mary Ann Valdez, age 39, was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, where she died of her injuries. Police have not yet revealed the details surrounding the collision.

According to a family member, both were so passionate about riding that they gave the name, Harley Ann, to their youngest daughter. They were both born and raised in San Antonio. They resided there until 2001, when Mr. Valdez secured a position with the Fort Worth Police Department. He had been employed by the department for 14 years, starting in the gang unit, and later in the intelligence unit.

They were described as very generous and helpful. They leave behind four children:  Mikey, age 23, Marissa, age 21, Jakey, age 17, and Harley Ann, age 15. When the crash happened, their eldest son, Mikey, was following them home. According to the 911 call report, the caller continually screamed, “Dad, Dad.”

Mary Ann Valdez was very supportive of her children, and went to sporting events and tournaments, regardless of where they were located. She had a very close relationship with her family, and was like a mother to all the friends of her children.
