Types of Injuries
The severity of a motorcycle accident injury depends on a number of factors, including the circumstances surrounding the crash and whether the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet. An accident may cause relatively minor injuries such as road rash and broken bones. In an overwhelming number of motorcycle accidents, however, victims suffer catastrophic injuries, including back, burn, spinal cord, and brain injury, and even death.
Motorcycle Accident Compensation
A motorcycle accident settlement or jury award is intended to compensate a victim for the financial losses he or she suffers as a result of his or her injury, including medical expenses, rehabilitative treatment, lost income, decreased earning potential, household expenses during recovery, and other relevant expenses. The amount of the settlement or jury award depends on a number of factors, including the circumstances surrounding the crash, the severity of the victim’s injuries, and the skill of the victim’s attorney.
Filing a Motorcycle Accident Lawsuit
There are a number of steps involved in filing a motorcycle accident lawsuit, including investigating the accident and filing the proper documentation within the appropriate timeline. Given the complexity of filing a lawsuit, it is advisable for victims to hire an experienced lawyer to handle their claims.
